Water generators in Saudi Arabia: Jeddah versus Riyadh

Published 29 October 2026 · 7 min read

Saudi Arabia shows better than anywhere why location decides everything. The Red Sea and Gulf coasts carry real moisture in the air. The central desert around Riyadh is among the driest inhabited places on earth.

Short version: Jeddah, Yanbu, the Gulf coast (Dammam, Al Khobar) and the south-west are workable for water from air, with the best output from November to February. Riyadh and central Najd are too dry for most of the year (11–15% humidity in summer). There, buy a unit for purification, or don't buy one at all.

The coasts: workable all year, best in winter

Jeddah's average relative humidity runs from about 36% in June to 54% in December and January. Because the air is also very warm, it holds a lot of water vapour even at those percentages, so a unit makes useful volumes. Output is strongest in the cooler, more humid winter months. The Gulf coast (Dammam, Al Khobar, Jubail) shows a similar pattern, with very humid summer nights.

Riyadh and the interior: honest advice

Riyadh averages about 42–44% humidity in December and January, but only 11–15% from June to September. At those levels a compressor unit makes almost nothing. Unless you have a specific winter-use case, we recommend a SkyTap unit in Riyadh only as a water purifier, fed from your supply.

Heat: install it correctly

SkyTap units are rated to operate between about 15°C and 38°C. Saudi summer afternoons regularly exceed that outdoors, so install units in a shaded, ventilated indoor space such as a covered utility area or service room. Avoid sealed, heavily air-conditioned rooms, because air conditioning strips humidity out of the air. Good airflow across the unit matters more than anything else.

60 Hz units

Saudi Arabia's grid runs at 220/230 V, 60 Hz, not the 50 Hz used in Africa and Europe. Every unit we supply to Saudi Arabia is confirmed as a 60 Hz configuration before it ships.

How export orders work

For Saudi Arabia, imported electrical products must meet SASO requirements through the SABER platform. We confirm this for each order and include it in the delivered price.

Questions

Do atmospheric water generators work in Saudi Arabia?

On the coasts, yes: Jeddah averages 36–54% humidity with warm air that holds plenty of moisture. In Riyadh, summer humidity of 11–15% is too dry for useful generation.

Do your units run on Saudi 60 Hz power?

Yes. Units for Saudi Arabia are supplied and confirmed as 220/230 V, 60 Hz.

Can the unit sit outside in the summer heat?

Not in direct sun. Units operate between about 15°C and 38°C, so install them in a shaded, ventilated indoor space with good airflow.

How is the price quoted for Saudi Arabia?

In US dollars, DDP to your address, with freight, Saudi customs, duties and conformity requirements included.

Sources. Monthly humidity figures are 1991–2020 modelled averages (NASA POWER) via Climate-Zone; Dubai figures from the climate table in Climate of Dubai. Output figures are the manufacturer's tested values (80L unit: about 80 L/day at 30°C and 80% RH, about 50 L/day at 27°C and 60% RH, about 11 L/day at 25°C and 30% RH). Local estimates are modelled from that curve; they are planning guidance, not measured field results.
