Water generators in Ghana: Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi

Published 29 October 2026 · 7 min read

Few places suit an atmospheric water generator better than coastal Ghana. Accra's air is warm and humid all year, which is almost exactly the condition these machines are rated at.

Short version: in Accra and along the coast, expect output close to the rated figures for most of the year. The real questions in Ghana are power stability and water quality, not humidity, and both have straightforward answers.

Why Ghana's climate is ideal

An atmospheric water generator condenses moisture already in the air, so warm, humid air is what makes it productive. Accra averages 78% relative humidity in January, rising to 88% in July and August, with daytime highs of about 28–33°C all year. That keeps the machine in the top part of its output curve almost every day.

The dry, dusty harmattan (roughly December to February) lowers humidity in the north of the country far more than on the coast. Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Takoradi stay humid even then. Kumasi and the Ashanti region are slightly less humid but still very good. Tamale and the far north see a sharp harmattan dip, so output there falls noticeably in the dry season.

At these humidity levels the cost per litre is also at its lowest, because the compressor collects more water for every kilowatt-hour.

Power: plan for dumsor

The 20L draws about 970 W and the 80L about 1.25 kW while the compressor runs. Both plug into a standard 230 V outlet. Larger 1000L and 5000L units need three-phase power (about 8.7 kW and 46 kW).

During a power cut the unit pauses and resumes when power returns. Water already in its tanks stays available. For businesses that rely on it, a small inverter and battery, or an existing generator, keeps production going. Solar works well in Ghana because humidity is high both day and night.

Water quality

Water from the air starts free of the contaminants that affect wells, boreholes and ageing pipes. It is then filtered through sediment, carbon and ultrafiltration stages and sterilised with UV before you drink it. The same unit can also purify your piped or tank water when you prefer. For bottling or resale in Ghana, the water must still be tested and approved under the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) rules. We supply the technical documentation your lab or consultant needs.

How export orders work

For Ghana specifically, imported electrical products must meet Ghana Standards Authority conformity requirements, including certificate-of-conformity rules. We confirm and include this for each order.

Questions

Do atmospheric water generators work in Ghana?

Yes, very well. Accra averages 78–88% humidity with warm temperatures all year, which keeps output close to the rated figures. Only the far north sees a significant dip during the harmattan.

How much water will an 80L unit make in Accra?

Typically about 60–80 litres a day for most of the year, and about 55–70 litres in the driest weeks.

Can I use it for a water bottling business in Ghana?

Yes. Our 1000L and 5000L systems suit commercial production. Bottled water for sale must be tested and registered with Ghana's Food and Drugs Authority, and we provide the technical documents needed.

How is the price quoted for Ghana?

In US dollars, DDP: freight, Ghanaian customs, duties, conformity certification and delivery to your door are all included.

Sources. Monthly humidity figures are 1991–2020 modelled averages (NASA POWER) via Climate-Zone; Dubai figures from the climate table in Climate of Dubai. Output figures are the manufacturer's tested values (80L unit: about 80 L/day at 30°C and 80% RH, about 50 L/day at 27°C and 60% RH, about 11 L/day at 25°C and 30% RH). Local estimates are modelled from that curve; they are planning guidance, not measured field results.
