Privacy Policy
Last updated 24 August 2026
This policy explains what personal information SkyTap (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/640234/07, collects about you, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It is written to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
The short version: we collect what we need to quote you, deliver your unit and support it afterwards. We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising.
1. Who is responsible for your information
SkyTap (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for the personal information described here. You can reach us at kai@skytap.co.za or +27 63 738 1166 about anything in this policy.
2. What we collect
When you contact us or request a quote
- Your name
- Your phone number and email address
- Your company name, where you are buying for a business
- What you told us you need — models, quantities, timelines
When you place an order
- Your delivery address, and access details for the delivery
- Billing details and proof of payment
- Where required for customs clearance on an import, identifying information that the customs authorities require
After delivery
- Service, maintenance and support history for your unit
- Where you take SkyTap Care, the maintenance record for that machine
We do not collect special personal information as defined in POPIA, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
3. Why we use it, and on what basis
- To prepare quotations and answer your questions — because you asked us to.
- To fulfil your order — delivery, customs clearance, warranty registration. This is necessary to perform our contract with you.
- To provide support, warranty service and SkyTap Care — necessary to perform our contract with you.
- To meet legal obligations — tax records, customs and import records, and regulatory requirements.
- To send you service messages about your own unit, such as a filter replacement reminder under SkyTap Care.
We will not send you marketing messages unless you have asked us to, and any that we do send will let you stop them in one step.
4. Who we share it with
We share only what is necessary, only with parties who need it to do a job for us:
- Freight forwarders, couriers and customs brokers — your name, delivery address and contact number, so your unit can reach you and clear customs.
- Our bank and payment processors — to receive and reconcile payment.
- Our accountants and professional advisers — where they need it to do their work.
- Regulators and authorities — where the law requires it, including SARS and the NRCS.
We do not sell your personal information, rent it, or share it for anyone else's advertising.
5. Information sent outside South Africa
Because our units are imported, some order information — typically a name, delivery address and contact number — is shared with suppliers and logistics partners outside South Africa, including in China, so your order can be manufactured and shipped. We share the minimum needed and require it to be used only for your order, as POPIA section 72 requires.
6. This website
Our website does not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies or analytics profiling.
The site does load typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches those files, your IP address is visible to Google, and Google's own privacy policy governs what happens to it. This happens on page load and is not something we control. If you would rather avoid it, a browser extension that blocks third-party font loading will stop it, and the site will simply fall back to your system fonts.
Our site is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for security and operational purposes.
If you contact us via WhatsApp, that conversation also sits on WhatsApp's platform and is subject to their privacy terms as well as this policy.
7. How long we keep it
- Quote enquiries that do not become orders — up to 12 months, then deleted.
- Order, tax and customs records — at least 5 years, because tax and customs law requires it.
- Warranty and service records — for the warranty period plus 2 years, so we can honour claims and trace a unit's history.
- SkyTap Care records — for as long as the plan runs, plus 2 years.
8. Keeping it secure
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. Our website is served over HTTPS. Access to customer records is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA section 22 requires.
9. Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate or incomplete
- Ask us to delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep
- Object to us processing your information in a particular way
- Withdraw consent, where we relied on your consent
- Complain to the Information Regulator
Email kai@skytap.co.za and we will respond within a reasonable period, and in any event within 30 days. There is no charge for a reasonable request.
10. Complaining to the regulator
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can complain to:
The Information Regulator (South Africa)
JD House, 27 Stiemens Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2001

11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Where a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you directly.
