Water generators in the UAE: Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah
Published 29 October 2026 · 6 min read
The UAE coast combines two things that matter for water from air: moist sea air and very high temperatures. The first works in your favour. The second just needs careful installation.
Short version: Dubai averages 50–65% relative humidity, and hot air carries a lot of moisture, so coastal UAE is a good location. Output is best from October to April. In summer, install the unit in a shaded, ventilated indoor space, because outdoor afternoon heat exceeds its operating range.
What Dubai's climate means for output
Dubai's average relative humidity ranges from about 50% in May to 65% in December and January, averaging 59% across the year. Coastal nights in late summer can be extremely humid. Because the air is hot, even 50% humidity holds a large amount of water vapour, so output stays useful throughout the year. Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah are similar. Inland desert areas such as Al Ain are drier.
| Location | Wetter / humid months | Driest months | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi coast | 61–65% (Oct–Feb) | 50–55% (Apr–Aug) | Good all year |
| Al Ain, inland | Moderate in winter | Dry, very hot summer | Fair; best in winter |
Planning estimates for the coast
| Unit | Typical season | Toughest season |
|---|---|---|
| SkyTap 20L | about 11–15 L a day | about 9–13 L a day |
| SkyTap 80L | about 45–60 L a day | about 35–50 L a day (installed indoors) |
Installing for UAE summers
Units are rated to operate between about 15°C and 38°C. Outdoor afternoon temperatures in summer go well beyond that, so:
- install indoors or in a shaded, ventilated service area, never in direct sun
- avoid sealed rooms with strong air conditioning, which dries the air
- leave at least 30 cm of clear space around the air intake and exhaust
- expect the most water overnight and early morning, when humidity peaks
Water quality and use
Most UAE drinking water comes from desalination, and many households and offices buy bottled water. A SkyTap unit replaces bottle deliveries with water made on site, filtered through sediment, carbon and ultrafiltration and sterilised with UV. It can also purify your existing supply. Commercial bottling for sale needs local food-safety approval.
How export orders work
- Priced DDP (delivered duties paid). Your quote includes the unit, sea or road freight, destination customs clearance, duties and delivery to your door. No surprise charges on arrival.
- Quoted per order in US dollars, or in rand for SACU countries on request. Volume pricing applies from about 5 units.
- Compliance checked before you pay. We confirm the destination's import and product-conformity requirements for your order, and build any certification cost into the quote.
- Units supplied for your power: 220–240 V, 50 Hz, the UAE standard.
- After-sales: warranty parts, replacement filters and remote support are supplied from South Africa or directly from the manufacturer. SkyTap doesn't send technicians abroad, so a local plumber or electrician handles installation where needed.
Imported electrical products in the UAE must meet Emirates conformity requirements. We confirm what applies for each order and include the cost in your quote.
Questions
Do atmospheric water generators work in Dubai?
Yes. Dubai averages 50–65% humidity and the hot air holds a lot of moisture, so units produce useful volumes year-round, with the best output from October to April.
Can I put the unit outside on a balcony?
Only if it is shaded and well ventilated, and even then summer afternoons exceed the 38°C operating limit. A shaded indoor or service area is the better choice.
How is the price quoted for the UAE?
In US dollars, DDP: freight, customs, duties, conformity requirements and delivery to your door are included.

Sources. Monthly humidity figures are 1991–2020 modelled averages (NASA POWER) via Climate-Zone; Dubai figures from the climate table in Climate of Dubai. Output figures are the manufacturer's tested values (80L unit: about 80 L/day at 30°C and 80% RH, about 50 L/day at 27°C and 60% RH, about 11 L/day at 25°C and 30% RH). Local estimates are modelled from that curve; they are planning guidance, not measured field results.
