Where to put it, how loud it is, and what to avoid

Placement affects output more than most owners realise. The same machine in two rooms of the same house can differ substantially in how much water it makes.

Short version: put it somewhere warm, humid and well-ventilated — a kitchen usually beats a lounge, and both beat an air-conditioned office. Give it clear space around the intake and exhaust. Expect noise similar to a fridge, with the compressor cycling on and off.

What the machine actually wants

Three things determine how much water it makes, and you control all three through placement.

The air conditioning problem

Worth its own section because it catches out almost every office installation.

Air conditioning cools by condensing moisture out of the air — which is precisely what your water generator is trying to do. Put the two in the same room and the AC wins, because it is larger and running constantly. You end up with an expensive machine working hard in artificially dried air.

If the space is air-conditioned, put the generator as far from the outflow vents as practical, ideally near a doorway or somewhere with outside air exchange. And accept that in a heavily conditioned office, the purification mode will do more of the work than atmospheric generation — which is fine, and is exactly why dual mode matters.

Clearances

The unit needs to breathe. As a general rule:

The most frequent real-world error is pushing the machine flush against a wall to save space. That restricts airflow and reduces output measurably, for no benefit beyond a few centimetres of floor.

Noise

Two sources: a compressor and a fan. Expect something broadly comparable to a domestic fridge — a low hum with the compressor cycling on and off, plus continuous fan noise while it runs.

This is fine in a kitchen or break room. It would be intrusive in a bedroom or a quiet study, and worth thinking about if your office is open-plan and silent. Note also that it cycles, so the noise starts and stops rather than being constant background — some people find intermittent noise more noticeable than steady noise.

If a supplier tells you a compressor unit is silent, they are either mistaken or selling a thermoelectric unit.

Warmth and moisture output

Two side effects worth knowing about, both consequences of how it works.

It warms the room slightly. A refrigeration cycle moves heat rather than destroying it, so the heat pulled out of the air is exhausted back into the room, plus the energy the compressor itself uses. In a small closed room this is noticeable.

It dries the room slightly. It is, mechanically, a dehumidifier. In a damp room that is a bonus. In an already-dry room it makes its own job harder over time, which is another argument for ventilation.

Setting it up

  1. Let it stand upright for a few hours before switching on if it has been transported lying down — the same rule as a fridge, so the refrigerant settles.
  2. Discard the first tank. Run it, then dump the first batch rather than drinking it. Standard practice for any new water appliance.
  3. Check filters are seated and any transit packaging is removed before first use.
  4. Give it a day before judging output. The first tank fill from empty always feels slow.
  5. Note the date you fitted the filters somewhere you will find it in six months.
